Study in Australia from Malaysia
Australian universities and colleges are the main reason Malaysians come to Hays. We help you choose a course you can actually finish, lodge a student visa that stands up to Genuine Student checks, and keep the door open for work after graduation.
Why Malaysians study in Australia
Australia remains the first choice for Malaysian students who want an English-speaking degree, a familiar climate, and a realistic chance to work after they graduate. Courses sit under the Australian Qualifications Framework and must be CRICOS-registered for international students, that is the baseline we check before we recommend anything.
- World-ranked universities in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and regional cities.
- Clear ladders from foundation or diploma into a bachelor degree, useful after SPM, STPM, UEC or a Malaysian diploma.
- Post-study work (subclass 485) for eligible graduates, which is how most Malaysians later become skilled-migration candidates.
- A Kuala Lumpur office that can sit with you in person, backed by MARA-registered agents in Adelaide who lodge the visa.
Who this pathway is for
If you have just finished SPM, are in a Malaysian diploma or degree, or you are a working adult considering a master’s, Australia can work. It is a poor fit if you need permanent residency first and have no study plan. We will tell you that in the first meeting.
- SPM / IGCSE leavers aiming for foundation or diploma, then university.
- STPM, UEC, A-Level or foundation students applying for bachelor degrees.
- Diploma holders seeking credit into an Australian bachelor.
- Graduates targeting a master’s, plus a Temporary Graduate visa afterwards.
What Hays actually does
We are not a directory of every Malaysian university. We are an Australian education and migration firm with a KL desk. Course advice, institution applications, scholarships we can actually access through partners, and the student visa sit in one file, so the Genuine Student statement matches the course you were offered.
- Profile review: results, English, budget, city preference, and whether you later want to work in Australia.
- Shortlist of CRICOS courses that fit those constraints, not a 40-page brochure dump.
- Application, offer, acceptance and Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
- Subclass 500 lodgement with MARA-registered agents, including GS, funds and OSHC.
- A written note on what 485 and later skilled options usually require, so you do not pick a dead-end course.

Most Malaysian searches fall into five jobs: how to apply, which course, scholarships, the student visa, and work after study. Use the cards below. If you are not sure, book a consultation, that is faster than reading every page.
Questions families actually ask
FAQ
Can I study in Australia after SPM?+
Yes. Typical routes are foundation, diploma, or a packaged pathway into a bachelor. Direct bachelor entry usually needs STPM, UEC, A-Levels, a foundation, or a recognised diploma. We map this on the how-to-apply page.
Do I need IELTS to study in Australia?+
Most universities ask for IELTS Academic, PTE Academic, or an equivalent. Some packaged pathways accept a lower score with an English program first. See our IELTS for study page for how scores are used on student visas.
Is Australia cheaper than studying in the UK?+
Tuition is still a major cost. The difference for many Malaysian families is the chance to work part-time during study and stay on a 485 afterwards. We cost the whole package, fees, OSHC, living, and visa, before you accept an offer.
Can Hays help with both the university application and the visa?+
Yes. QEAC education consultants handle the course and offer. MARA-registered agents handle the subclass 500. That split is the point of using a registered firm rather than a commission-only counter.
