VEVO check: verify an Australian visa from Malaysia

Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) is the Australian Government’s free tool to see visa status, work and study rights, and conditions. Hays already ranks in Malaysia for this query, this page is the localised, practical version, with a link to our longer Australian guide.

What VEVO is

VEVO reads Department of Home Affairs records. It does not grant, extend or change a visa. Use it before a new job, enrolment, or flight. Always use the official Home Affairs VEVO service, not a random “visa check” website that harvests passport numbers.

  • Current visa status and subclass
  • Grant and expiry dates
  • Work rights and study rights
  • Travel facility and conditions

How to complete a VEVO check

  1. Open the official Visa Entitlement Verification Online service on the Department of Home Affairs website.
  2. Have your passport (or ImmiCard), date of birth, and a visa grant number, TRN, or visa evidence number.
  3. Enter the details exactly as Home Affairs has them.
  4. Read conditions, especially work hours on a student visa.

If VEVO cannot find you, the usual cause is a mistyped passport number or the wrong reference. ImmiAccount is for lodging and managing applications; VEVO is for verifying a grant. Our longer walkthrough lives on the Australian site.

Questions families actually ask

FAQ

Can I check my Australian visa from Malaysia?+

Yes. VEVO is online. You need matching identity details and a reference number from your grant or application.

Does VEVO replace ImmiAccount?+

No. VEVO verifies entitlements. ImmiAccount is where applications are lodged and tracked.

My employer asked for VEVO. What do I do?+

You can share a VEVO view or your employer can use VEVO for organisations with your consent. Do not email your passport to unofficial third parties.

Need help reading VEVO conditions?

We can explain work and study rights. We cannot change them, only Home Affairs can.
